Beginning Spanish 
The student will engage in speaking, reading, listening, and writing activities to gain introduction to the Spanish language.  

Spanish for Spanish Speakers
Students whose heritage language is Spanish will develop, maintain, and enhance proficiency in their heritage language by reinforcing and acquiring skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, including the fundamentals of Spanish grammar.

Spanish 1 (High School Course)
Students will engage in speaking, reading, listening, and writing activities to gain proficiency in the Spanish language. This is a High School Credit course and the grade achieved will affect the High School Academic Core GPA. A High School Course Agreement form will be signed by the student and parent/guardian during the first week of school. Successful completion of this course will make the student eligible to take Spanish 2.  

Spanish 2 (High School Course)
Students will engage in deepening their knowledge in speaking, reading, listening, and writing activities to gain proficiency in the Spanish language. This is a High School Credit course and the grade achieved will affect the High School Academic Core GPA. A High School Course Agreement form will be signed by the student and parent/guardian during the first week of school.

Speech
The students will be provided with instruction and experience in preparation and delivery within a public setting and group discussion. Students will learn how to research, prepare, and deliver a variety of speeches:informative, persuasive, and special occasion public speaking.  Students will form worldly ideas, supporting those ideas while arguing their side and the side that contradicts theirs. Debate teaches students that their voice matters and should be heard. Young debaters will learn writing and speaking skills to compete in debate competitions in 7th and 8th grade.

Debate I Honors (High School Course)
Students will develop oral and written communication skills as well as critical thinking skills. Students will learn how to use tools and strategies for research, organization, and presentation. Students will develop an understanding of each of the ten types of Debate by preparing for mock competitions.  

Creative Writing 
Students will learn how to write creatively using poetry, ballads, and comic strips. They will learn the technical aspects of publishing work in a literary magazine in addition to the technical aspects of performing in a public reading.

Global Scholars
This course is part of an international classroom working on projects that impact our world, communities, schools, and families. Students use real-world connections to learn and create. They will communicate via video chats with students around the world to brainstorm solutions to world problems. Requirements include students collaborating in group activities while maintaining and meeting deadlines for projects. Our Global Scholars students participate with peers across the globe to develop student learning outcomes for global communication exchange.

Journalism: Broadcasting & TV Production 
Students will learn the basics of filmmaking, including shot composition, sequencing, editing and digital storytelling. Along with learning the fundamentals of broadcast journalism, including interview skills, graphics generation and the creation of T.V. news packages for the Daily News show. Students must be self-directed, able to work in groups and meet deadlines.

Journalism: Newspaper, Yearbook & Social Media
Students will learn the basics of how to compose articles and stories to publish in the school newspaper and yearbook. They will learn about sequencing, editing and digital storytelling. Along with learning the fundamentals of broadcast journalism, including interview skills and graphics and the storyboard process. Students will also learn how to create posts for social media and use graphic design programs to create flyers and/or advertising information for the school. 

Peer Counseling  
As Peer counselors, students will learn how to act as conflict mediators, peer tutors, and will work with students individually and in groups. They will provide classroom presentations on teen issues such as substance abuse prevention and other projects. Students will be required to collaborate with peers, conduct oral presentations and projects.

Beginning Band  
Students with little or no instrumental experience develop foundational instrumental technique, foundational music literacy, and aesthetic musical awareness through rehearsal, performance, and study of high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists work on the fundamentals of music notation, sound production, instrument care and maintenance, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. There will be a limited number of school instruments available for rent.   

Intermediate Band 2
Students with previous band experience build on instrumental technique, music literacy, and aesthetic response through rehearsal, performance, and study of a variety of high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists expand their knowledge of music notation, music theory, sound production, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. There will be a limited number of school instruments available for rent.   

Advanced Band 3
Students with previous band experience expand on their instrumental technique, music literacy, and aesthetic response through rehearsal, performance, and study of a variety of intermediate-level, high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists extend their knowledge of music notation and theory, sound production, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. There will be a limited number of school instruments available for rent.  

Chorus
This course is designed to help students achieve greater vocal independence and confidence.  Students will study a variety of musical styles and work as an ensemble to perform and share music with friends, family, and the community.  Students will memorize their music and follow conductor cues.  Through group exercises, individual practice, demonstrations, and warm-ups students will become comfortable in their vocal range and focus on proper breathing and tone production.  Each student experiences a unique and positive atmosphere in which they learn to be a better performer.

Art
Students will work in a variety of mediums to produce works of art. Explore units on pottery, drawing, painting, and producing artwork using creative mediums will also be explored. Artwork will be shared around the school and compete in the district, as well as national poster contests.

Drama  
Students will learn the foundations of drama using acting, role-playing improvisation and group work. They may participate at district and state levels.

Solar Engineering Technology & Design 
Students will explore various alternative sources of energy. Students will develop ideas to innovate designs of solar panels. This course is facilitated using a project-based learning approach.

Introduction to Engineering Design Honors (High School Course)
This course exposes students to the design process, research and analysis, teamwork, communication methods, global and human impacts, engineering standards, and technical documentation. Students will employ engineering and scientific concepts in the solution of engineering design problems. The course also explores robotics and the engineering process. Students will design, build, and program robots which will allow them to experience the engineering process firsthand.

Environmental Discovery
Students will engage with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. The course requires that students identify and analyze natural and human-made environmental problems while evaluating the relative risks to the environment and humanity associated with these problems ultimately examining alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them. Students get a hands-on opportunity to grow their own vegetables and flowers in the school hydroponics garden to fulfill the laboratory requirement of the course. This course is facilitated using a project-based learning approach.

STEM Research
This course is for students interested in pursuing a career in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. These courses provide an opportunity for students to engage in hands-on research and learn critical skills such as problem-solving, data analysis, and experimental design. Through STEM research courses, students can explore and understand complex scientific concepts and gain valuable experience working with the latest technologies and equipment. STEM research course will provide students with valuable knowledge and skills that enable them to make meaningful contributions to the scientific community, society, and the world at large. This course is facilitated using a project-based learning approach.

Health and Study Skills
The purpose of this course is to inform and educate students on different types of health professions. Upon successful completion of this course students be able to perform some of the basic skills and knowledge common to health care. Students will also learn how to effectively prepare and study in all subject areas.

Physical Education 
Students will be provided with a foundation of knowledge, skills, and values necessary for the development of a physically active lifestyle through fitness activities and team sports.

Critical Thinking  
Students will develop learning strategies, critical-thinking skills, and problem-solving skills to enhance their performance in academic and nonacademic endeavors.

Forensic Science
In this course students will use scientific application methods, techniques, and principles to investigate criminal and civil cases. Students will learn how to apply scientific methods to collect, analyze, and interpret physical and biological evidence found at a crime scene. The course will cover a range of topics, including forensic investigation methods, evidence collection and preservation, and fingerprint analysis. Students will also learn how to document their findings and present their results in a clear and concise manner. Through hands-on laboratory exercises, students will gain practical experience in techniques such as fingerprint analysis, and crime scene reconstruction. Upon completion of this course, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to investigate and solve complex crimes, analyze evidence, and present findings in a professional and scientific manner.

Coding, Esports & Gaming Design
The course is designed to prepare student learners for career readiness, life literacy, and key skills and provides students with the necessary skills to make informed career and financial decisions, engage as responsible community members in a digital society, and to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities in an interconnected global economy. Students will be expected to work collaboratively and participate in competitions.  

Exploring Digital Technology  
Digital Discoveries in Society course explores various information technology, physical computing, and robotics. Students can complete all three IC3 Digital Literacy Certifications: Key Applications, Living Online, and Computing Fundamentals courses. Successful completion of this course could lead to High School credit in Engineering and Robotics in 8th Grade.

Apple/Microsoft Technology Team
Student leaders are trained to provide technical support. The purpose of this course is to teach leadership skills, problem solving, decision making, communication skills, group dynamics, time management and human relations as it relates to providing Technology Support. 

Introduction to Business  
Introductory Computer Applications includes Orientation to Career and Technical Occupations Career Planning. Students that follow this pathway will explore Entrepreneurship and training in PowerPoint. The course requires students to complete projects and collaborate in a group. The students will have an opportunity to earn Digital Tool Certifications PowerPoint or Microsoft Word.  

Exploring Business Leadership 2
This Exploration of Career and Technical Occupations course provides knowledge of basic employability skills needed to locate, secure, and maintain employment. Students that follow this pathway will explore Entrepreneurship and training in Microsoft Word. The course requires students to complete projects and collaborate in a group. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for High School credit in Virtual Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. Students will have the opportunity to earn Digital Tool Certifications in Microsoft Word and/or Excel.  

Exploring Business Leadership 3 (Entrepreneurship & Applications)
This course engages students in an Extensive exploration of information technology careers. Students that follow this pathway will explore Entrepreneurship and training in Microsoft Word. Students will participate in the Network for teaching Entrepreneurship framework. NFTE students learn how to think and act like entrepreneurs, developing competencies in eight key areas. The course requires students to complete projects and collaborate in a group. Activities facilitated in this course will develop student’s leadership and teamwork skills. Students may have the opportunity to earn Digital Tool Certifications in Microsoft Word and/or Excel.

Business Leadership through Virtual Enterprise (High School Credit)
This program replicates all the functions of real businesses in both structure and practice.  Under the guidance of the teacher and business mentors, students create and manage their virtual businesses from product development, production and distribution to marketing, sales, human resources, accounting/finance, and web design. Students will be required to complete projects and work collaboratively with peers. This is a High School Credit course (not an Honors course) and the grade achieved will affect the student’s High School Academic Core GPA.

Student Leadership Development Course (J.R.O.T.C.)
The mission of The Broward Student Leadership Development Corps (SLDC) is to produce better informed middle school students whose focus is on preparing for their next educational challenge. Student Leadership Development Corps spiraling curriculum enhances classroom learning, participation in extracurricular and social development activities, and developing a healthy lifestyle. A key goal of SLDC is to improve student achievement across the curriculum and to ensure that students transition seamlessly from middle school to high school. The course includes development of basic leadership skills to include leadership principles, values, and attributes. The course also includes an introduction and preparation for the high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps – JROTC where “Learning to Lead” and “Learning to Follow Leadership” are emphasized. Students will learn to write and recite the U.S. Army Cadet Creed, learn and perform basic military marching and drill maneuvers, and engage in physical training. The course entails Platoon Team Building Activities on Tuesdays, Physical Training and Exercise on Wednesdays, and Military Drill on Thursdays. Also included is a study of the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, responsibilities of U.S. citizens, and the federal justice system. Students will learn to publicly speak on various topics related to discipline, and respect. 

Latinos in Action
Latinos in Action (LIA) offers an asset-based approach to bridging the graduation and opportunity gap for Latino students, working from within the educational system to create positive change. The end goal of everything we do is to empower Latino youth to lead and strengthen their communities through college and career readiness. We accomplish this by focusing on four pillars: leveraging personal and cultural assets, excelling in education, serving the community, and developing leadership skills.

Criminal Justice & Law Studies 
The primary content for this course pertains to the principles, functions, and organization of the American legal system. The students will learn the purpose of law, the role of citizens, the impact of laws on the lives of citizens, civil and criminal laws, fundamental civil and criminal justice procedures, causes and effects of crime, consumer and family law, comparison of adult and juvenile justice systems, and career opportunities in the legal system. Students will study methods of historical inquiry and primary and secondary historical documents.

Financial Literacy
Students will study the ideas, concepts, knowledge, and skills that will enable students to make sound personal finance decisions; to become wise, successful, and informed consumers, savers, borrowers, investors, risk managers, and future employees or employers; and to be participating and informed members of the global economy.

Multicultural Studies
This course explores the study of the chronological development of multicultural and multiethnic groups in the United States and their influence on the development of American culture. Content will include, but is not limited to, the influence of major historical events on the development of a multicultural American society and social aspects of Native American, Hispanic American, African American, and Asian American culture.
